The Problem
Sexual harassment is an ongoing and common issue at PPR Kota Damansara. In the past, there have been many reported cases and complaints from young women at the PPR where they have been sexually harassed by men in public areas around the PPR.
The Solution
The Beyond Bins project strives for a sustainable and circular economy by connecting corporate players, the underserved communities, and Biji-Biji Initiative partners.
This project works on small-scale plastic recycling which also benefits the B40 communities by providing an additional stream of income for them. Small-scale plastic waste recycling machines are provided to the communities to produce recycled products after a period of training and guidance. The plastic can either be shredded and sold to recyclers or created into new products that can be sold on both physical and digital platforms.
The communities will stand to gain through educational programs and awareness to instill a sustainability mindset.
SafeCity is a project by Sisterhood Alliance to spread awareness about sexual harassment and encourage young girls at the PPR to share their stories or experience involving sexual harassment. This was carried out by educating the young girls regarding self defense and basic knowledge about body safety. Through this programme, the participants are more self aware about body safety and how to avoid or deal with sexual harassment, as well as spreading awareness about sexual harassment among girls and women.
